I have been hearing more and more about term limits and my original opinion was that I wasn't for it. I don't think that our founding fathers ever imagined career legislators. If they had there probably would have been limits in the constitution. However, correct me if I'm wrong but it is up to the States to set their own rules for electing U.S. Senators & Congressman. Our luck would be for the conservative leaning states to enact term limits and the left leaning states wouldn't. I have no problem voting the bums out in the primaries and think it would probably be healthy to do so every few years.
Politics is such an unsavory profession I can't imagine why someone would want to do it. OhYeah, power.
I'm am really fortunate here in Texas to have grade "A" representation. My Congressman is Sam Johnson who is one great American and a war hero to boot. Senators John Cornyn & Kay Bailey Hutchison aren't bad either. Do you think it would be possible to get Massachusetts, California and other liberal leaning states to pass term limits? Nah, probably not.
Found out more about term limits and it is up to local governments to enact term limits. Here's some stats; Term limits have been placed on 15 state legislatures, eight of the ten largest cities in America adopted term limits for their city councils and/or mayor, and 37 states place term limits on their constitutional officers.
Remember, every town councilman wants to be a congressman; every congressman wants to be a senator; and every Senator wants to be president.
