Holocaust Remembrance

I got this from the Dennis Prager show today. It was a powerful discussion and I learned a lot. I thought I'd throw it out here to see what everyone thought.

Lessons from the Holocaust;
1. People aren’t inherently good.
2. Evil must be confronted. [Pacifism is a moral failure]
3. The responsible should be armed.
4. Death of Christianity has led to more evil.
5. Lies are used by evil to promote their agenda
6. The Jews are the miner’s canary for worldwide evil.

1. People aren’t inherently good.
The idea that people are born basically good and through circumstances, a bad childhood, poverty and on and on, they have no choice other than resort to ______ [fill in the blank] Right and wrong/good versus evil is a choice in most cases. Some people are born evil and that is where we get Sociopaths, but thankfully most are born blank slates. I think this ties into #4. We are all taught right from wrong - good and evil as children or we were in my day. It was taught in church, the school and in the home. If we were born good would this be necessary? Children are born narcissists where everything revolves around them and we teach them to share and get a long with others.

2. Evil must be confronted. [Pacifism is a moral failure]
If the Holocaust teaches us anything it should teach us this. Whether it's a bully on the play ground, a Hitler in 1936 or Radical Islamic Fundamentalist now. You have probably heard the discussions surrounding the statement, "If we had only taken out Hitler and the Nazi's in 1938". It is easier to say than do, however. Look at the grieve President Bush got over Iraq. We'll never know how many innocent people we're saved by taking out Saddam. We do know how many would have been saved if we had taken out Hitler. The real problem I see today is that the left has a had time recognizing evil.

3. The responsible should be armed.
This is another obvious one for me. The first thing Hitler, Mao etc do is disarm the public. Thomas Jefferson wrote that the second amendment was the most important of the bill of rights. It protects us from the government and insures all the other rights. In addition, don't you think it is one of the unspoken inalienable rights that each individual has the right of self defence?

4. Death of Christianity has led to more evil.
It's our moral compass. As Christianity declines we see more evil in the world. The rise of all the isms, Fascism, Communism and etc. Who was it that said, "Those who quit believing in God won't believe in nothing, they will believe in anything."

5. Lies are used by evil to promote their agenda
Lies about the Jews brought us the Holocaust. Lies about the Blacks brought us slavery. Lies about the west & Israel bring us the War of Terror.

6. The Jews are the miner’s canary for worldwide evil.
Another one that is pretty evident to me. In the 1930's it was said that antisemitism is a Jewish problem. In the 1980's and 1990's terrorism in the Mid-East is an Israeli problem.

Well, there you go. I'm interested in what you all think.
